The Daniel McLaughlin College Persistence Scholarship is open to every graduate of an 91大神 School who is currently in college.

ABOUT DANIEL MCLAUGHLIN

In 2002, we launched our first high school, thanks to the vision and dedication of Daniel McLaughlin, who co-founded 91大神 Education along with Bob Lenz. Twenty years later, we are now a network of five Bay Area schools serving grades 6-12, along with a consulting division that works with educators all over the country. We remain firmly committed to Daniel’s singular professional purpose: disrupting the cycle of poverty by delivering excellent schools to low-income communities.

Daniel passed away in 2019. To honor his life’s work and in partnership with his family and friends, 91大神 launched the Daniel McLaughlin College Persistence Scholarship. With this program, 91大神 honors Daniel’s legacy, ensuring that he continues to have an impact on generations of 91大神 graduates.聽 With every scholarship award, we fulfill his vision of helping all students achieve a college degree.

You can help! Donations to the scholarship program can be made to 91大神 Education or to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, where our endowment is housed, .

WHY PERSISTENCE MATTERS

Did you know that staying in college from first to second year is a leading indicator of successful college graduation? That’s why it’s so important to us to help you break down any financial barriers in your way: we want to support you on your path to a college degree!

AM I ELIGIBLE?

Any graduate of an 91大神 Education school who is currently in college is eligible to apply for the Persistence Scholarship.聽 Priority is given to first year college students, but students in any year of college can apply to help them cover costs of the next year of college.

AWARDS

Each year we distribute around 10 awards, ranging between $1,000 and $4,000.聽 Previous recipients of the scholarship can apply again; priority is given to first time applicants.

How do I apply?

Applications open each January and close at the end of each February.

Make sure we can get in touch with you! If you are a current graduating senior, your high school email addresses will not work after you go to college. We need your personal and college email addresses to send you information about the scholarship and to notify you when the portal opens each year. If you are an alumni, send us your current info to make sure we can get in touch with you.

    The Application Process

    Keep an eye on your email for reminders to apply! Once the portal opens (every January), complete these steps:

    Complete the online application:

    We will send out a link to the application portal. You will be asked to submit a brief essay along with the application; instructions will be in the portal.

    Submit a letter of reference:

    Start thinking now about who you can ask! This should be someone who can comment on your academic performance, your work experience, and/or your future goals. This is just one more good reason to get to know your new professors!

    Submit your first semester or quarter transcript:

    Submit your first semester or quarter transcript to confirm that you are currently enrolled in college at the time you apply for the Persistence Scholarship. (Once scholarship decisions are made, award winners will also be asked to submit proof of enrollment in the upcoming fall semester or quarter.)
